So I know that things like copyright infringement and whatnot are very important topics and we should respect the intellectual property of others. BUT, I love, love, love torrent sites. It's one of the only ways I can keep in touch with things back home.
My favorite use for torrent sites are all the fashion programs I download like Project Runway, America's Next Top Model, and all the other fashion show rip offs. They make me feel creative and I want to pick up some material and make something.
For over a year now, I've been working on designs for a handbag line called Poetry or Lyrics. I'd eventually like to get into clothing, but I have to work on my construction skills. I'm not the best seamstress yet. This is partly due to the fact that I'm doing everything by hand right now which is so damn time consuming. The line uses kimono fabrics, but in a western design style. I don't want my bags to look like something you can buy from a souvenir shop in Asakusa.
So, next month when my paycheck comes in, I'm going to invest in a sewing machine. Finally. I have all the materials I need (except for a thin suede, I'm still trying to find a good shop for that in Tokyo), so I want to get started on constructing my bags.
If I finish one and it looks good, I'll post it here. For now, I leave you with one of my designs (bad photo, taken quickly with my phone. Please excuse). The fabric is this lovely pink silk that is intended for a Haori jacket. I got a whole roll of the fabric new from a kimono shop I know. The wine colour trim is all suede.
