So about a month ago I ordered a region free DVD player from Rakuten (yes, I know I swore I wouldn't shop there anymore...then I ordered a new futon set, bookshelves and desk). The DVD player came in two weeks ago and didn't work.
That is to say it didn't work well. The screen saver came on, it said it was reading the DVD...and then nothing. I tried a Japanese DVD, a Canadian DVD, a burned DVD, everything froze the player for at least 15 minutes. When it finally did start to play (except the one from Canada, it never made it past the "reading disc" stage), the damn thing kept freezing so that Tom Hanks sounded like he had the world's worst delayed stutter. "I've g-g-g-g-got t-t-t-o-o-o-o (5 minute pause) get to a l-l-l-library... F(3 minute pause) ast!"
Anyways, I was super pissed because I paid good money for the player. Okay, it wasn't SO much money, but still. It's the principal of the thing. I wrote an irate email to the company demanding either a refund or an exchange and for them to email me toot sweet (as we northern Canadians say) with instructions detailing what they were going to do for me. No reply.
Where is this story going?
Tonight the Kuroneko guy showed up at my door with a package. As I was expecting something from Nissen, I wasn't suspicious until he was holding out TWO packages to me. Turns out the company (without contacting me first) had sent me a replacement player.
Now herein lies the dilemma; do I return the player that doesn't work properly....or keep it? They haven't emailed me and there's no letter inside the box, so I'm not sure what to do. I'm sure it could be easily repaired and then sold off for a profit somewhere....
What angel on my shoulder will I listen to, the good one or the bad one?
